Winter can put a significant strain on your health, though many winter illnesses can be treated at home with basic medicines. So if you are unfortunate enough to become ill during the winter there are lots of things you can do to get better quickly.
If you don't feel well stay indoors, get some rest and keep warm (perhaps go to bed). Make sure you drink plenty of fluids (non-alcoholic) and eat what you can. You should also consider taking painkillers (e.g. paracetamol or ibuprofen) to ease any aches and pains.
We have included advice and information in this section which should help you get through the winter months. Whilst it is intended to be helpful, please do not take any risks if you have an illness – you should seek medical advice urgently if your symptoms become severe, last more than a week, if you are elderly or if they come on the top of a chronic or long standing illness.
For more information visit NHS Choices or ask your local GP or pharmacist. You can also call NHS Direct on 0845 4647.
