What are vaccinations?

Immunisation (vaccination) is a way to trigger your immune system to recognise and efficiently fight off serious, life-threatening diseases.

Once your immune system (your body’s defence system) has learned how to get rid of an infection it remembers how to protect itself from that infection for a long time afterwards.

Without the immune system, even minor problems could result in life-threatening illness.
