Drugs and what they do to you
For the people who take them, illegal drugs can be a serious problem. They're responsible for between 1,300 and 1,400 deaths a year in Britain but that's not the end of the damage that drugs do, they also wreck thousands of relationships, families, and careers.

Drug use can put enormous strain on the body, lead to mental illness and, when taken in large quantities or with alcohol, some substances can be fatal.

There is a wide range of services available to advise, support or provide treatment for drug use. Some of the services are provided by the NHS or local councils while others are specialist drug facilities run by charities and private organisations.

If you're the parent or relative of someone who you think is taking drugs and you need advice, you can get free, confidential help at www.talktofrank.com. Here, you can submit your questions or concerns by e-mail, or request that more information is posted to you. You can also find out more about every type of known drug in the A-Z of drugs and about the help and support available in your local area.

With the right help and support it’s possible to get drug free and stay that way.
