NHS Hampshire is encouraging local adults to ‘swap it, don’t stop it’ as part of the new Change4Life adult campaign. Kids and families are already making changes thanks to Change4Life, and now the attention of the campaign is turning to adults.

We all want to feel healthy and trim, but no-one wants to deprive themselves of all the things they love drinking, eating and doing. The ‘Swap it, Don’t stop it’ campaign for adults highlights the fact that you don’t have to cut out the things you like and recognises that one of the best ways to be healthy is to make some swaps and build them into your life for the long term. The more you do, the better you’ll feel – and you won’t have to say “no” to everything!

Here are 6 simple ways to swap some of the things you eat, drink and do for healthier choices. If you start making some of these today, you may be surprised how quickly you start to feel better – and if you stick to them, you’ll begin to lose weight.

  • ‘Five a day’ – it’s easier than you think to get your recommended amount of fruit and veg every day.
  • ‘Plate swap’ – why not try putting your meals on a smaller plate so you feel satisfied, not stuffed?
  • ‘Up and about’ – yes, it is possible to get fitter without forking out for a gym membership!
  • ‘Snack swap’ – it may be hard to believe but there are snacks around that are better for you than chocolate or crisps and are just as tasty.
  • ‘Fibre swap’ – having enough fibre in your diet will not only keep yourself ‘regular’ but will also lower your cholesterol.
  • ‘Drink swap’ – learn how to cut down on alcohol’s hidden calories without missing out on your social life.

The Change4Life website has loads of helpful hints on how to make your swaps. Find out more about these at www.nhs.uk/change4life
