If you need a GP outside of normal working hours you will be dealt with by the out of hours service.
Out of hours period
The out of hours (OOH) period is from 6.30pm to 8.00am on weekdays and all day at weekends and bank holidays.
When to call
You should only call the out of hours service for urgent health problems that can’t wait until your surgery re-opens. The service does not deal with repeat prescriptions as your surgery provides these.
If you call the OOH service you will be asked questions to assess whether your medical problem is urgent.
If you’re not sure you can also ring NHS Direct on 0845 4647 for medical advice.
