Local Authority Overview and Scrutiny Committees (OSCs)
Since January 2003, every local authority with social services responsibilities has had the power to scrutinise local health services. OSCs review both major changes in the local NHS and the ongoing operation of services. You can contact the local health Overview and Scrutiny Committee through your county councillor. NHS Centre for Involvement
The NHS Centre for Involvement encourages the NHS and other organisations to involve patients and the public in health and social care decision-making and supports Patient and Public Involvement (PPI).
Care Quality Commission
The new Care Quality Commission was established by the Health and Social Care Act 2008 to regulate the quality of health and social care and look after the interests of people detained under the Mental Health Act.
It brings together the work of the Commission for Social Care Inspection, the Healthcare Commission, and the Mental Health Act Commission. It took up its responsibilities for the quality of health and social care in April 2009.
